This job is part of the DPE (Digital Platforms & Engineering) team and involves working on projects for the Fisher Scientific online store. The person in this role will turn business requirements into practical technical solutions using tools like LucidWorks Search, SOLR, and JAVA. Thermofisher Off-Campus Hiring is for those people who should be able to collaborate well with a team to create and develop web applications and services. This role includes working with various systems such as content management, product information management, search engines, middleware, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
The best fit for this job is someone positive, proactive, and willing to handle all stages of software creation, from design and coding to testing and integrating different systems.
Job Role
Collaborate with Thermofisher Off-Campus Hiring and the development team, architect, scrum master, and product owner to design, build, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Java web applications based on specific needs. Enhance search features on fishersci.com using LucidWorks and Solr. Join in all team meetings, including planning sessions, discussions to refine product details, product showcases, and reflection meetings. Follow the software development standards approved by DPE.
Engage in code reviews with colleagues to make sure each part of the project matches the original plan as outlined in the user story and fits the architectural guidelines. Strive for high quality and ongoing enhancement of applications and procedures. Thermofisher Off-Campus Hiring will Assist with deploying applications to the live environment and support the production team when necessary. Demonstrate skills in analyzing and designing applications, ensuring they are robust, easy to maintain, and can handle growth.
Basic Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science.
- At least one year of experience creating web applications with Java frameworks like Spring, and a solid grasp of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
- Strong skills in problem-solving and debugging.
- A strong drive to learn new technologies, tackle challenges, and work in a dynamic environment.
- A great team player with excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Familiarity with Agile practices, Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), version
- control with GIT, and project management tools like JIRA and Confluence.
- Willingness to take charge in critical situations, such as handling urgent production problems.
- Flexibility to adjust work hours as necessary for meetings with onshore teams.
- Experience with AWS services, Microservices architecture, and databases like Postgres, Oracle, and NoSQL is a plus.
- Knowledge of Kafka, Kafka Connect, and Spring Batch is also a plus.
- Experience with tools for monitoring and logging.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
